Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about restoration pack-outs, secure storage, inventory, documentation, insurance, and getting your belongings safely back home.
Getting Started & Pack-Outs
What is a contents pack-out during restoration?
A contents pack-out is the careful removal, packing, and relocation of your belongings from a property undergoing water, fire, or mold restoration. We document, pack, inventory, and securely store your items, then return and reinstall them once restoration is complete.
When should I schedule a pack-out?
As soon as the affected areas are identified and it is safe to enter. Removing contents early helps protect them from further damage and gives your restoration contractor clear access to the structure.
Do you offer free estimates?
Yes. We provide a no-obligation estimate after learning about your project. Reach out by phone or through our contact form and we will follow up promptly.
What areas do you serve?
We serve Long Island, Nassau County, Suffolk County, and the greater New York City area. If you are nearby and unsure, contact us and we will let you know.
Packing & Materials
How do you protect fragile and high-value items?
Fragile, antique, and high-value belongings receive individualized wrapping and padding and are noted in your inventory with condition records, so they are protected during transport and storage.
Do you provide your own packing materials?
Yes. We bring the boxes, padding, and protective materials appropriate for each item type as part of the pack-out.
Can you coordinate with my restoration contractor?
Absolutely. We regularly work alongside restoration teams so contents are packed and removed in step with the restoration schedule.
Storage
Is your storage facility secure and climate-conscious?
Our storage is monitored, secured, and climate-conscious to help protect sensitive contents from temperature and humidity changes throughout your project.
How long can my belongings stay in storage?
We offer both short-term and long-term storage and tailor the arrangement to your restoration timeline, with no fixed pressure to remove items early.
Can I access my items while they are in storage?
If you need a specific item during your project, contact us and we will work with you to locate it using your inventory and arrange access.
Contents Cleaning
Are your cleaning technicians certified?
Yes. Our contents cleaning follows IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification) standards — the recognized benchmark in the restoration industry — so your belongings are handled using proven, up-to-date methods.
Do you clean items damaged by smoke, soot, or water?
Yes. Our contents cleaning teams treat smoke-, soot-, water-, and mold-affected belongings — including furniture, electronics, textiles, and delicate items — and restore them to pre-loss condition whenever possible.
What happens to items that can't be restored?
After cleaning and assessment, items are sorted into restorable and non-restorable groups. Anything that is a total loss is documented with photos and condition notes so it can be included in your insurance claim.
Is cleaning done before or after storage?
It depends on the loss. In many cases items are cleaned during the pack-out process before going into storage, which helps stop smoke, soot, or moisture from causing further damage while your property is being restored.
Inventory, Documentation & Insurance
How do you keep track of everything?
Every item or box is logged in a detailed written inventory with condition notes and photo documentation. This creates a full chain of custody from pack-out through return.
Will I receive documentation of my belongings?
Yes. We create organized photo and inventory documentation that records the condition of items before storage, structured for clarity and easy reference.
Do you work directly with insurance companies?
Yes. We communicate and bill directly with insurance carriers and adjusters, and we provide organized photo and inventory documentation that is transparent and useful for the claims process, making it smoother for homeowners.
Do you use Xactimate pricing?
Yes. Our estimates use Xactimate pricing — the same industry-standard platform that insurance carriers and restoration contractors rely on — so the costs we document are in a format your carrier recognizes.
Who pays for the pack-out and storage?
Costs are often part of a property insurance claim, though coverage varies by policy. We recommend confirming the specifics with your insurance provider, and we are happy to provide the documentation they request.
Return & Reinstallation
What happens when restoration is finished?
We return, unpack, and carefully place your belongings room by room using your inventory, then complete a final walkthrough with you to confirm everything is back and that you are satisfied.
How do you make sure nothing is missing on return?
We work from the same detailed inventory created at pack-out and verify each item during the final walkthrough, so the return is organized and verifiable.
Are you insured?
Yes. We operate as a fully insured service and maintain a documented chain of custody on every project.
How do I get started?
Call us or submit the contact form with a few details about your project. We will discuss your situation and timeline and build a packing, storage, and inventory plan tailored to it.
