Most of our work is about protecting what matters most inside a home — carefully packing, cataloging, and storing a family's belongings while their house is put back together. This past weekend, our team stepped outside that role to help take care of a home from the outside in.
Precision Packing was proud to join more than 50 students and a group of local partners in Setauket to restore the yard of a local U.S. Army veteran, as part of the Act of Valor Foundation's Youths Helping Heroes at Home program. The program brings elementary, middle, and high school students together to honor veterans through hands-on service in their own communities.
A Day of Service in Setauket
Volunteers restored the veteran's outdoor space from the ground up. Working in teams, students and adult volunteers weeded garden beds and walkways, raked and bagged leaves, mowed the lawn, trimmed hedges and overgrown shrubs, cleared debris, and edged along the sidewalks and planting beds. By the end of the day, the homeowner had a clean, well-kept yard heading into the new season.
The care and attention the students brought to the work felt familiar to us — it's the same spirit we try to bring to every home we handle: treat it like it's your own, and account for every detail.
Youths Helping Heroes at Home
Youths Helping Heroes at Home is a program of the Bob Feller Act of Valor Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Port Jefferson Station that honors service, sacrifice, legacy, and citizenship. It teaches service, craftsmanship, and character by putting students to work alongside adult mentors on real homes and community spaces across Suffolk County — always in service of veterans, active-duty members, and their families.
Every opportunity to give back is a reminder of why community matters so much to us. To the veterans who have served our country: thank you for your service and sacrifice. It is an honor for our team to use what we do best to give something back. — Kate Gironda, Act of Valor Foundation
Why We Took Part
Precision Packing is a local company, based right here in Suffolk County. The people and organizations that hold this community together — especially the veterans who served our country — matter to us beyond any project. When there was a chance to spend a day giving something back, it was an easy decision.
To the students, families, and fellow local partners who made the day happen: thank you. And to the veterans in our community: thank you for your service. It was an honor to be part of it.
